Hainan Endemics Birding
Overview
Hainan Island has the characteristics of tropical and subtropical transitional natural habitats, so the bird resources on Hainan Island are very rich. According to the latest statistics, there are 428 species of birds recorded in Hainan Island. As Hainan Island has been isolated from the mainland for quite a long time, the natural environment has gradually changed, all these contributed to the birth of many unique bird species, including Hainan Partridge, Hainan Peacock Pheasant, Hainan Laughingthrush and Hainan Leaf Warbler, etc.
Hainan Island is also an important breeding, resting and wintering ground for migratory birds. As Hainan Island is located at the midpoint of the migratory flight route between East Asia and Australasia, providing suitable habitat for tens of thousands of migratory birds along the route, Many migratory birds including some endangered species such as Spoon-billed Sandpipers and Black-faced Spoonbills come to Hainan every year to winter. This tour targeted all the Hainan Endemics, the rare wintering migrants, as well as many owl species found on the island.
