Itinerary
The birding journey starts and ends in Chengdu, Sichuan’s gateway city, offering seamless access to the province’s extraordinary avian wonders. The itinerary weaves through diverse habitats—from the misty mountain forests near Chengdu to high-altitude alpine meadows, lush subtropical valleys, and serene wetlands in remote prefectures. Along the way, you’ll see most of Sichuan’s prized endemics, including the elusive Sichuan Jay, vibrant Emei Shan Liocichla, and many species of Parrotbills, while also encountering rare gems like the Red Panda, Golden snub-nosed Monkey(Rhinopithecus roxellana),Chinese monal and many pheasants species. This well-curated route maximizes habitat diversity and endemic sightings, blending accessibility with unforgettable wild encounters
International flight arrival in Chengdu, pick up by our guide, welcome dinner.
Drive from Chengdu to Pingshan area, birding at the lower area of Pingshan; Ashy-throated Parrotbill, David Fulvetta, Grey-headed Parrotbill, Sichuan Bush Warbler, Chinese Hwamei, White-crowned Fortktail,Slaty-backed Forktail.etc, Night at Xianshan Hotel.
Early morning leaving , drive up to the top of the mountain for birding in the hides:Sichuan Partridge, Lady Amherst’s Pheasant, Temminck’s Tragopan, Silver Pheasant, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, Emei Shan Liocichla, Buffy Laughingthrush, during the middle of the day, we may take a walk around to look for Golden Parrotbill, Red-winged laughingthrush,Golden-breasted Fulvetta,Gray-hooded Fulvetta,Gray-headed Parrotbill,White-collared Yuhina,Chinese Babax, Night at Xianshan Hotel.
Birding in the morning, either to the hides or birding in the wild, looking for species we might be still missing, then heading to Longcanggou, reach there in the evening. Night at Longcanggou Xi Jian Zhu She Eco-lodge.

Birding in the morning, then drive to Wawushan, birding in the afternoon, lower elevation of Wawushan. Night at the bottom of Wawushan.

Night at the bottom of Wawushan.
Birding in the morning, drive to Labahe in the afternoon, reach to Labahe in the evening, birding at the lower elevation of Labahe if time permits. Nigh at Labahe Nature Reserve Hotel.
Full day birding at Labahe, take the cable car up to the top for Chinese Monal,Pere David’s Tit, Fire-capped Tit,Golden Bush Robin, Sichuan Thrush, Brown, Chestnut-crowned,Grey-sided, Spotted, Aberrant Bush Warblers, along with many warbler species and Parrotbills we saw previously. Night at the same hotel.
Drive to Erlang shan, birding in the morning, Firethroat, Rufous-tailed (Moupinia) Babbler, Black-streaked Scimitar Babbler, Barred Laughingthrush, Yellow-streaked Warbler, Sharpe’s Pink-rumped,Vinaceous,Chinese White-browed Rosefinches, Yellow-throated Bunting, Mrs. Gould’s Sunbird.
Chinese Monal, White-eared Pheasant, Snow Partridge, Golden Bush Robin, Sharpe’s Rosefinch, Chances for Grandala.etc. Long drive in the afternoon, reach to Wolong Valley in the afternoon.
Chinese Monal, Verreaux’s Monal-Partridge,Golden Pheasant,Himalayan Beautiful rosefinch, Chinese Fulvetta,Chances for Snow Partridge, Tibetan Snowcock,Grandala, Blood-Pheasant, White Eared Pheasant,White-winged Grosbeak,Vinaceous Rosefinch, Crimson-browed Finch, Slaty Bunting,Rosy Pipit,Chinese Rubythroat,etc. Nigh at the same hotel at Wolong Valley
Birding early morning in Balangshan, then heading towards Maerkang, making stops to look for Wall creeper and Snow Pigion,etc. Night at Malcom Miju Xika Hotel in Maerkang city.
Drive 1 hour to nearby Mengbishan, birding all day long,packed lunch. Verreaux’s (Chestnut-throated) Monal-Partridge, Blood Pheasant, Sichuan Jay, Crested Tit-Warbler, Rufous-vented Tit,Three-banded Rosefinch, Chinese Fulvetta, Przevalski’s Nuthatch, Maroon-backed Accentor, Giant Laughingthrush, Pink-rumped & Himalayan Beautiful Rosefinches,Firethroat,etc.
Today,we drive out the the city anad go higer to the Tibetan Plateau, you can see habitats changing while we go higher, we may stop randomly whereever we saw birds or need rest stops, birding along the way, Pere David’s Laughinthrush, Hill Pigeon, White-browed Tit-Warbler,White-browed Tit,Giant Shrike, Saker Falcon,Przevalski's Pintail,etc. Night at Vienna hotel in Ruoergain.
In the morning, we will visit some forested area, in search of Blue Eared Pheasant, Snowy-browed Laughingthrush, Sichuan Jay, Pere David’s Owl, Crested Tit-Warbler, Chinese Grouse,Spectacled Parrotbill, Giant Laughinthrush,White-bellied Redstart,etc. in the afternoon, we go for the Grassland and Wetland birding,snowfinches,Ground Tit,Larks,Black-necked Crane,Red-crested Porchard,Bar-headed Goose,etc. Night at the same hotel.
Birding along the way, picking up species we may still missing, Saker Falcon, Eurasian Eagle Owl, Giant Shrike, White-browed Tit Warbler, White-browed Tit, reach to Jiuzhaigou county in the evening. Night at Jiuzhaigou county.
Visit the Golden Snub-nosed Monkey Nature Reserve, birding around, then drive to Tangjiahe. Night at Tangjiahe Nature Reserve eco-lodge.
Mammals and birds, Tawny Fish Owl,,White-throated Laughingthrush,Zappey's Flycatcher would be new for us, Golden Pheasant is also possible.
Birding in the morning, drive back to Chengdu. Evening flight departure back from Chengdu.
