Grand China-Winter

Upon arrival, transfer to Lingshan mountain in Beijing, stay over night there.

For Beijing birding, species includes: Beijing Babbler, Japanese Waxwing, Naumann's Thrush, Red-throated Thrush, Godlewski's Bunting, Siberian Accentor, Chinese Beautiful Rosefinch, Siberian Long-tailed Rosefinch, Pallas's Rosefinch, White-winged Redstart (Güld), Chances of Asian Rosy Finch, Ala Shan Redstart, after half day birding there, transfer to Tianjin on the coast, over night in Tianjin.

A full morning birding on the coast of Tianjin, habitat covers sea coast, river estuaries, reed marshes, species includes Relict Gull, Chinese Grey Shrike, Pallas's Bunting, Reed Parrotbill, a few wintering duck species should be also seen along the way. take the afternoon high-speed train to Taiyuan and transfer to Jiaocheng city, stay over night there.

Main target birds here are Brown Eared Pheasant, Songar Tit,Silver-throated Bushtit, Pallas's Leaf Warbler, Beijing Babbler, Plain Laughingthrush, Chinese Nuthatch, Godlewski's Bunting, Siberian Accentor, full day birding here, spend the night at the same hotel.

After another trying for the Pheasant in the morning, then tranfer back to Taiyuan train station and take the high-speed train again to Xinyang city.

Early morning try the Reeve's Pheasant at a hide, the rest of the day, we will drive around to search for Crested Ibis, Collard Crow, Yellow-bellied Tit, Rustic bunting, Crested Kingfiser ,etc. in the afternoon, go trying the pheasant again, we will spend another night here.

A few hours very early in the morning, then drive to the train station and take the high-speed train to Poyang lake. In the afternoon, we will drive to see Baer's Pochard first, after that we will move to another place for the night stay.

All day long birding at the nature reserve, Poyang lake is the biggest fresh water lake(Seasonal) in China, it covers an area of 3000 sq.kms in winter, when the water level drops a bit, the grassland comes out of the water, it provides the best feeding ground for big flocks of Geese( Swan, Tundra and Taiga Bean, Greater and Lesser White-fronted, Graylag), As well as the Cranes, 4 species of Cranes(Sibieran , Hooded, White-naped and Common) can be seen here regularly every winter, almost of the world population of Siberian Cranes winter here. Oriental Stork, Black Stork as well as large numbers of Tundra Swans and Whopper swans are also wintering here.

We will drive around the lake to different locations and search for all the species possible, and enjoy watching them, we may are also lucky to find the Yangzte Finless Porpoise (Neophocaena Phocaenoides Asaeorientalis) on the way to Wuyuan, we will spend our night in Wuyuan.

We will go for the Pied Falconet first early in the morning, then drive to find more forest birds, such as Short-tailed Parrotbill, Grey-sided Scimitar Babbler, Rufous-capped Babbler, Streak-breasted Scimitar Babbler, Spotted Elachura(Difficult in winter), Collard Finchbill, Huet's Fulvetta, Green Shrike Babbler, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, Yellow-browed Bunting, Tristram's bunting, White-crowned Forktail,etc. in the afternoon, we drive to a valley along a river to see the very famous Scaly-sided Merganser, Long-billed Plover and Mandaring Ducks are also frequently spotted. Night at the same hotel

Another morning trying the species we still need, then carry on further south to Fujian province, this day we will have a 6 hours long drive, reach to Emeifeng before sunset, catch the last light and give the first attempts for the very localized species here. Stay over night the top of the mountain.

Full day birding here, Cabot’s Tragopan, Elliot’s Pheasant, White-necklaced Partridge, Silver Pheasant,Silver Pheasant, Koklass Pheasant, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, Buffy Laughingthrush, Grey-sided Scimitar-babbler, Indochinese Yuhina, Huet's Fulvetta, along with many other good SE. China speceis. Night at Emeifeng.

Another day birding here to increase our chances; Cabot's Tragopan, Elliot's Pheasant, Silver Pheasant, Koklass Pheasant, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, White-necklaced Partridge, Buffy Laughingthrush, Grey-sided Scimitar-babbler, Indochinese Yuhina, Huet's Fulvetta, along with many other good SE. China speceis. Night at Emeifeng.

After the early morning birding, we drive back to the nearest airport, and catch the flight to Sanya in Hainan Island, then tranfer to Jianfengling, stay over night there.

All day long birding at Jianfengling, early in the morning, we will sit into the pre-booked ( very busy) Hainan Peacock-Pheasat and Hainan Partridge Hides, Waiting for the good show, after, we will walk around the area for some Hainan Endemics or near endemics, Hainan Leaf Warbler, Hainan Laughingthrush, Rufous-cheeked Laughingthrush, Yellow-billed Nuthatch,White-winged Magpie, Chinese Barbet, other species includes Hainan Blue Flycather, Pale Blue Flycatcher ( Hainan race),Fork-tailed Sunbird, Spot-necked Babbler, Eyebrowed Wren Babbler, Lesser Yellownape, Pale Blue Flycatcher ( Hainan race),Fork-tailed Sunbird, as well as some common bulbuls and babblers. Nights at Jianfengling, Green-billed Malkoha, etc . Nights at Jianfengling. After dinner, can go for night birding for a few owl species: Oriental Bay Owl, Collard Scops Owl, Mountain Scops Owl, Brown Wood Owl, Collard Owlet ,etc.

Another day here for the Hainan Peacockpheasant and Partridges, the rest of the day, we can go for Grey-headed Parrotbill, Grey-chinned, Scarlet Minivets, Orange-headed Thrush, Japanese robin, rufous-tailed Robin, Indo-Chinese Green Magpie, White-crowned Forktail, Harter's Leaf Warbler, Hainan Bule Flycatcher, Hill Bule Flycatcher, Large Scimitar Babbler, Huet's, Dusky Fulvetta, Ratchet-tailed Treepie, Grey Treepie, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo.

Very early morning flight to Nanning, then transfer to Nonggang, can reach to our destination around lunch time. Then we will start our birding in the afternoon, Nonggang has many bird hides, we can see most of our target birds easily at the hides, included the star bird Nonggang Babble, Blue-rumped Pitta, Indo-Chinese Green Magpie, White-winged Magpie, Black-throated Laughingthrush, etc. Night at local home-stay.

We will give another trying for some species we may still need from the hides early in the morning, then we drive around and birded along, a nice walk along a little stream may yield Yellow-eyed Babbler, Chestnut-capped Babbler, Malaysian Night Heron, White-eared Night Heron, Limestone Leaf Warbler, etc.

After a final morning here, we will finish the trip and drive back to Nanning airport for departure.
